PALERMO – From the numbers analyzed by INPS it emerged that only in Sicily, in the decade 2013-2023, over eight hundred people died in the workplace. A note from the Institute reports this.
“We can no longer allow work to be characterized by the adjective deadly – says the president of the INPS Sicily Regional Committee Valeria Tranchina -. That of Casteldaccia is yet another tragedy that certainly should have been avoided.”
The new proposals from INPS
The trade union organizations and business associations making up the INPS Regional Committee have approved a document, in which they support some proposals: giving centrality to permanent contracts, strengthening the fight against precarious work; extend the so-called adequate DURC, already in force in the construction sector, to all other sectors, establishing an adequate relationship between the work to be carried out and the number of employees assigned to it.
And also introduce the system of business classification and points-based licensing, involving not only the company on which the worker depends but also the contracting company in any sanctions in the event of death and/or serious injury; make it mandatory to upload data regarding near misses to the “Near Miss” platform managed by Inail; reduce e-learning training and encourage in-person training, strengthen verification activities regarding the actual use of mandatory training and training and on the compliance of the providing bodies.
And finally: adapt the staffing structure of labor inspectors in Sicily; provide for the training obligation for employers to be fulfilled before starting business activities; encourage full sharing of databases and give full functionality to the national information system for prevention; finance ex-curricular projects at schools of all levels on prevention and safety at work; allow small companies to suggest corporate organizational models regarding health and safety at work.
