Pope Francis read the Bull announcing the Ordinary Jubilee of the Year 2025 which will be lived in the name of hope. «Spes non confundit», «hope does not disappoint» (Rm 5,5)» – said the Holy Father.
«I think of all the pilgrims of hope who will come to Rome to experience the Holy Year and of those who, unable to reach the city of the apostles Peter and Paul, will celebrate it in the particular Churches. For everyone, may it be a moment of lively and personal encounter with the Lord Jesus, the “door” of salvation (see John 10:7.9); with Him, whom the Church has the mission of announcing always, everywhere and to everyone as “our hope” (1Tim 1,1). Everyone hopes. In the heart of every person there is hope as a desire and expectation of good, despite not knowing what tomorrow will bring with it.
The unpredictability of the future, however, sometimes gives rise to conflicting feelings: from trust to fear, from serenity to discouragement, from certainty to doubt. We often meet disheartened people who look at the future with skepticism and pessimism, as if nothing could offer them happiness. May the Jubilee be an opportunity for everyone to resuscitate hope.
Let us now allow ourselves to be attracted by hope and allow it to become contagious through us to those who desire it.».
On the occasion of the jubilee it will be a big celebration in the city in honor of the Madonna di Capocolonna as happened in 2016 for the Jubilee of Mercy.
The city will therefore have to be ready for the liturgies and rites which will take place as if it were the seven-year anniversary. Therefore it will be the large painting that will be carried in procession to Capocolonna and the return should take place via oxen. But it is not at home that precisely in this time in which the people of Crotone are preparing to accompany the Patroness towards the Sanctuary, Pope Francis also speaks of the incessant pilgrimage: «The pilgrimage – he said on the day of the reading of the bull – expresses a fundamental element of every jubilee event.
Setting out on a journey is typical of those who go in search of the meaning of life. Pilgrimage on foot greatly encourages the rediscovery of the value of silence, effort and essentiality.”
So the people of Crotone are also preparing to live a year of grace, faith and prayer but it will also be the year to rediscover ancient rites.
Nothing has yet been decided for the organisation, also because the Cathedral will certainly still be closed to the public to allow the renovation and safety work to continue.
But we will prepare well in advance for the big party. In fact, on the occasion of the Jubilee, it will also be possible to receive a plenary indulgence.
