Trade crisis in Cosenza: as many as 35 shutters down in the city center

COSENZA – There are 35 shutters down in the city centre, and by city center we are talking about those streets in the heart of the city of Cosenza which were once recognized by all as having a high commercial density. And by lowered shutters it means commercial desertification. A very worrying picture that follows the trend in the rest of the country. The ones who resist, also in this case in line with the national trend, are the catering businesses, pharmacies, parapharmacies and mobile phone shops. There is no doubt that influencing what can be defined as a real death of traditional retail activities, which also marks the end of a tradition that has characterized them for decades, because many of these have been handed down from father to father children, the change in the commercial fabric, the pandemic and the economic crisis of recent years. And seeing all these shutters lowered also indicates how the city of Cosenza has become unattractive, because it has lost that soul that everyone recognized until a few years ago, the commercial one. In addition, the closure of local commercial activities not only leads to the loss of jobs and the reduction of meeting places, but also increases the sense of degradation. A phenomenon that must be stemmed, perhaps by seeing municipal administrators, intermediate bodies and economic operators around the same table together, to work on possible solutions such as for example regulatory instruments, trying to identify economic incentives for new activities or the relaunch of existing ones. But we need to hurry because the risk of seeing other shutters lowered is serious and concrete.
