TRENT. Having now passed the milestone of a quarter of a century, the Meeting returns for its twenty-sixth edition “The Theater School”, final act of the “Youth at Theater – Theater at School” project, promoted by Co.F.As. in collaboration with the Province.
During the 2023-2024 school year, which is about to end, the students/aspiring actors from seven provincial high schools faced a creative commitment in the theatrical field and, under the guidance of their teachers coordinated by the professor Maria Zanetti and also assisted by the experts of Co.F.As., they set up the shows that will be presented to the public at the Teatro S. Marco of Trento in the Meeting “The school at the theatre” on the days of Monday 13th, Tuesday 14th, Wednesday 15th, Thursday 16th and Friday 17th Mayalways starting at 8.30pm.
The opening evening of the Meeting will see on stage, Monday 13 May, the School company of the “Enaip” Professional Training Center of Villazzano with «And I will speak to his heart! Tales for the soul” edited by Sergio Bailo. The theatrical writing takes inspiration from the Bible and tells of Hosea, defined as the prophet of tenderness and of his troubled love for Gomer, one of the sacred prostitutes of the pagan temple of Baal. Through a series of “Stories for the Soul” the show aims to reflect and transport us to a place where these little stories can speak directly to our hearts.
Two school companies will be on stage on Tuesday 14 May. We will start with the“Buonarroti” Technical Institute of Technology in Trento which will bring to the stage “Zeta, the last letter” by Ilaria Andaloro and Fabio Gaccioli with extracts from Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet”. The performance was born from a series of reflections regarding the so-called generation Z in relation to other generations. Some pages of Shakespeare’s masterpiece have helped to focus on thematic nuclei such as love, conflict, generational clash. Famous episodes of the tragedy were updated and rewritten by the participants of the theater workshop to tell how today’s teenagers experience their age, with the lights and shadows that characterize it.
It will then be the turn of “Sophie Scholl” Linguistic High School in Trento with “The Machine Stops”, a show based on a story by the British writer Edward Morgan Forster. In an indefinite future, humanity lives in an underground world, constantly served by the Machine and subservient to it. Each individual lives isolated in his cell equipped with all comforts and is strongly discouraged from going out to the surface. In this universe live Vashti, a firm supporter of the advantages of the world regulated by the Machine, and her rebellious son Kuno, attracted instead by the freedom to experience life on the surface.
The Meeting will continue on Wednesday 15 May, again with a double proposal, the first of which will see the“Lorenzo Guetti” Institute of Tione of Trento propose the revisitation of the text by the Canadian novelist Michel Tremblay “The sisters-in-law”, an evening among friends who, around a table, are dealing with everyday problems, while they go on the attack of a million points in a prize competition. A biting satire of consumerism, but also the delicate portrait of a group of “desperate housewives”.
“Othello” (our way)”, a rewriting of Shakespeare’s famous tragedy, will therefore be the proposal of “Celestino Endrici” Archbishop’s College of Trento where a fearless general in the service of the Republic of Venice leaves for a mission to Cyprus, shortly after marrying Desdemona against the wishes of her family. It will not be the enemy Turks, however, who pose the greatest threat to Othello, but rather the treacherous subordinate Iago. Through a series of machinations that also involve the naive Roderigo, infatuated with Desdemona, Iago maneuvers Othello into believing that his wife is cheating on him with his new lieutenant Cassio.
The fourth evening of the Meeting will open on Thursday 16 May “Andrea Maffei” high school in Riva del Garda with “Cafè literaire – War and peace”. It is a musical in four acts on the theme of human relations, war and peace, which aims to inform and make people reflect on the themes of war and poverty, but also on the possibility of intervening to promote and affirm essential human rights and the value of solidarity. Four sketches – in Italian, French, Spanish, German and English – through which we try to address the theme of projects and objectives in a light but at the same time incisive way with music, dance, singing and narration of each of us, of the fatigue and joys linked to life and death.
The second proposal of the evening will see female and male students on stage “Giovanni Prati” Classical High School of Trento engaged in the stage transposition of Agata Christie’s novel “Verdol’ora zero”. It is the story of Lady Camilla who, like every summer, invites relatives and friends to her house. But a strange situation arises when Nevile, the noblewoman’s protégé and heir, warns her that this summer both his new wife Kay and Audrey, her first wife, will be with him. From the moment of their arrival the tension will become more and more palpable, until one morning Lady Camilla’s body is discovered. Who killed her? Superintendent Battle will solve the intricate case.
The Meeting will end on Friday 17 May with “150 years of the Agricultural Institute. The beginning of a long journey”. The show is the result of four workshops, conducted in parallel by the theater educator Michele Torresani, head of the Theater Team of the social cooperative “Progetto 92”, during which the students of the different school courses of the Institute approached the art of acting , concretizing the learnings of this path in the staging of four unique acts which reconstruct respectively the context and the motivations that led to the birth of this reality (“Between border nationalities: foundation”); the inauguration, the school organization, the thanksgiving celebrations for the first director Edmund Mach (“School of vine”), passing through the importance of experimentation and territorial teaching in supporting growers and breeders (“Research, innovate, disseminate !”), finally coming to highlight the connection with the dynamics of associative and migratory phenomena (“Cooperation and migration”).
Entrance to the five evenings of the Meeting, which will begin at 8.30 pm, will be reserved and free. CL
