Salerno

Jomi Salerno deservedly wins game 2 of the playoff semi-finals (32 -26) with Bressanone and extends the series to game 3. The Salerno team bring quality and determination to the table and show off a strong performance that gives them success in front of their fans.

A cynical and concentrated Jomi Salerno returns to the field against Brixen a few days after the defeat suffered in game 1 at the PalaSport in Bressanone. A real battle is taking place at the Palestra Palumbo with two teams that focus everything on physical explosiveness and technical skills. In Salerno we start again from 26-24 last Wednesday. The reigning Italian champions immediately demonstrate that they have an edge. Greater concentration and the right cynicism guide Jomi in the never predictable match with Bressanone. In the first quarter the Salerno team did well to get to +3 with Dalla’s goal in the 13th minute. Brixen doesn’t want to give up any ground and manages to get back to +2 led by its best players, Hachana and Babbo. This time, however, it is the visiting team that suffers Palumbo’s environmental pressure and therefore pays for a few too many errors and carelessness. The Salerno team are in form, Barreiro and Petersen are the protagonists of the second quarter: Jomi’s number 34 scores the +4 goal in the 26th minute. Bressanone then suffers Giulia Rossomando’s shot from 7 meters which closes the first half on result of 17 – 16.

At half-time it was Rossomando who returned to the net again. Jomi is ahead but Noessing’s team shows that they want to try until the end: the numerical inferiority for Jomi Salerno causes some certainties to falter in the second half underway, Brixen in fact recovers and equalizes the scores in the 10th minute with the goal on the 21st – 21 signed by Giada Babbo. The Salerno team want victory and, pushed by their fans, they are back ahead. Giulia Fabbo’s performance was excellent in the second half, the number 20 scored the +4 goal in the 20th minute. The match is now marked for Bressanone, first Barreiro and then Squizziato close the match with the result 32 – 26

Between Jomi Salerno and Brixen everything will be decided next Tuesday 14 May. In fact, at 6.30 pm, the program is scheduled at the Palestra Palumbo game 3 of the playoff semi-finals.

“We knew it would be a very difficult match, but at the same time we knew we had an extra boost, that of our fans. We were very motivated for this – declared Giulia Fabbo –. Our determination made the difference, our determination in defense as well as in attack, where we played in unison. We know it’s not over here, we’re happy with the match but there’s another one right away and we’re already thinking about that.”
