School canteen, 74 euros the average monthly expense in Abruzzo for Cittadinanzattiva – Notizie d’Abruzzo

74 it is the average monthly expense – in balance compared to last year – that an Abruzzo family faces for the canteen, in the current school year, compared to around 85 (about 4 per meal) than the national average. These are the data that emerge from VII Survey on school canteenswith which Cittadinanzattiva examined the tariffs of all 110 provincial capitals for both nursery and primary schools. The reference family considered by the survey is made up of three people (two parents and a minor child), has a gross annual income of €44,200, with corresponding ISEE of €19,900. In calculating the annual fee for the school catering service, a frequency of 20 days per month was assumed for a total of 9 months, excluding any extra annual and/or monthly fees.

We read in the press release that “The most expensive region on average is Basilicata (€109 per month) while the cheapest one is the Sardinia (€61 in childhood and €65 for primary school). In Abruzzo the prices range from €2.48 per meal in the schools of L’Aquila to €4.41 in Chieti”.

“The increase compared to the previous survey, referring to 2022/23, was over 3% as regards the national data, but the variations are very different at regional level: in Calabria recorded an increase of over 26%, while in Umbria the most evident reduction was around 9%.. At the level of individual provincial capitals, they are the families of Barletta to spend less for a single meal (€2 for both infant and primary school) while for infants we spend more Turin (€6.60 per meal) and for primary school Livorno and Trapani (€6.40). Among metropolitan cities, only Rome it falls into the ranking of the least expensive, with a cost per meal for the “typical” family of around €2.32 in both types of school”, we read in the association’s note.

“According to the National Registry, a third of school buildings, i.e. 13,533 out of 40,160, are equipped with a canteen. The distribution, however, is not homogeneous, as in the Southern Regions just over one building in five has a school canteen (in the Center it is 41% and in the North 43%) and the share drops to 15.6% in Campania and 13.7% in Sicily. The region with a greater number of schools equipped with a canteen is Valle d’Aosta (72%), followed by Piedmont, Tuscany and Liguria where it is present in 6 out of 10 buildings. In Puglia, Abruzzo and Lazio they are present in one building on four. The PNRR does not meet the needs of schools in the South, at least not to the extent hoped for. Out of 1052 interventions planned and 600 million in funds allocated, the South receives – according to the June 2023 rankings, the latest available – half of the resources, against the 58% foreseen by the original plan” analyzes the association.
