Benevento, the hotel crisis: closure nightmare

Another large hotel has closed its doors in the capital. This is the «Una Hotel Il Molino» in via dei Mulini. It was inaugurated in January 2011 in virtue of a copious investment by the Carfora family, achieved thanks to the restoration of the historic mill Rummoformer headquarters of the pasta factory of the same name.

I had 50 rooms refined and modern, halls for conferences and ceremonies, outdoor spaces and gardens, famous for having hosted teams of the caliber of Juventus, Milan, Inter, Roma, Naples and numerous artists such as Ramazzotti, Can Yaman, Lo Cascio, Bisio, Michelini, Gerini, Zalone and many others. Only the latest case of a sad trend which, beyond the damage in terms of accommodation and attractiveness, has also caused the loss of jobs.

The trend

In recent years, in fact, several hotels have been forced to close down, all of significant importance and with numerous rooms. The case of the historian is sensational «Hotel President» in the central Via Perasso, belonging to the Abete group, which closed in conjunction with the Covid in 2020 and since then it has no longer opened despite appeals and requests, including political ones. The future of the structure remains uncertain, while the only certainty is – in fact – the dismissal of around 15 employees.

Immediately afterwards it was the turn of«Hotel de La Ville»former Cittadella, and before that al «Bei Park Hotel», all 4-star accommodation facilities. Among many also «Hotel Genoa» And “Of sun”. A figure in stark contrast to a city hunting for tourism revival, a paradox that has no easy explanations and which we are trying to analyse. She intervened on the issue Teresa Romanopresident of the tourism and leisure section of Confindustria Benevento.

The analysis

«The closure of important accommodation facilities is sad, even more so when they belong to families who have made the history of provincial tourist accommodation. I do not believe, however, that the territory is at a standstill from this point of view, because a historic structure has recently been discovered (Italian hotel, ed.) and there are investments underway, aimed at intercepting an important customer target in the golf sector. It is clear that the presence of adequate accommodation facilities is fundamental to commercially promote an area, but equally so is the ability to organize the area to make it attractive. We must start from the organization of the territories».

With a view to adapting to the times and needs of the sector, choices and initiatives are necessary to seek a complete and organic relaunch of the sector. A work that Romano herself confirms has been planned and started in recent weeks.

«Confindustria Beneventotogether with Municipalities of Benevento and Montesarchio, is working on a shared strategy – he continues – for the creation of a DMO capable of coordinating, by networking, the various actions that pass through a systematization of the excellences that Sannio expresses. The territory must be made attractive for both tourism operators and investors.”

In his opinion «the tourist sector of the internal areas of Campania is undersized compared to the enormous potential it has. We have proposed, in the appropriate places, that tourism be identified as a key sector in drawing up the strategic plan of Zesalso asking for the simplification of the authorization processes.”
