A real “atmospheric wound” has opened in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, that is, a vast area of ​​low pressure that will continue to send unstable impulses towards the Mediterranean basin even after the middle of the month. In short, until the end of May Italy will be at the mercy of storm incursions

At least until 20/25 May this sort of perturbation machine will provoke rains and thunderstorms over Italy, in particular to Central-North: as often happens in this season, this does not mean at all that all days will be compromised by precipitation, on the contrary, these phenomena generally last a maximum of a few hours before the sun returns (in short, the classic spring instability). Having said this, it is reasonable to expect rainfall well above the climatic average and locally also extreme phenomena, such as hailstorms, due to the so much potential energy already present in our latitudes (brought by the heat arriving with the African anticyclone as early as next week).

A change could only arrive towards the end of Maythanks to a greater interference of a larger promontory African anticyclone: in those circumstances there will therefore probably be room for a first long-lasting summer phase across a large part of Italy; we do not exclude that maximum peaks of around 30°C could be reached, especially on the northern plains, on the two major islands and on the Tyrrhenian sectors.

Could that be the seasonal turning point that will then lead us to summer? We’ll see whether the next updates confirm this trend or not; we certainly have another very eventful few weeks ahead of us.
