Starting from Monday 20 May, at the Auditorium of the Benetton Foundation in Treviso, Cineforum Labirinto And FATV – Treviso Architecture Foundation they organize”Cinema and cities”, a seminar divided into three lessons to investigate the border area between cinema and architecture through the point of view of urban space. Starting from the commentary on the sequences of the selected films, Marco Bellano, professor of History of Animation at the University of Padua, will lead participants to discover three different thematic paths.

The first meeting will be dedicated to the analysis of two masterpieces destined to forever change the science fiction imagination of the last century and the concept of the “city of the future”: “Metropolis” (1927), a milestone of the Seventh Art directed by Fritz Lang, and “Blade Runner” (1982), the futuristic work signed by Ridley Scott and inspired by Philip K. Dick and cyberpunk imagery.

The second evening, scheduled for Monday 27 May 2024, will feature the relationship between urban space and animated cinema, with the aim of reconstructing a map of this special cinematic territory through the viewing and commentary of numerous animated films : from masterpieces from the Far East such as “The enchanted city” (2001) by the master Hayao Miyazaki and the visionary “Ghost in the shell” (2005), up to Disney Pixar cult films such as “Ratatouille” (2007) and “Zootropolis” (2016), passing through other animated works, including “Tokyo Godfathers” (2003) and “Meet in Belleville” (2003). The initiative will end on Monday 3 June with a meeting entitled “Venice and cinema” and dedicated to the cinematic portrait of the lagoon city. Starting from the analysis of various films set in Venice, such as “Othello” (1951) by Orson Welles, “Death in Venice” (1971) by Luchino Visconti, “Casanova” (1976) by Federico Fellini, the teacher Marco Bellano will reconstruct a city cinema itinerary retracing the places in which the Venetian capital was transformed into a real open-air set, welcoming and seducing generations of great directors and actors with its churches and their porticoes and campielli. The initiative is divided into 3 meetings which will be held on Monday from 8.30pm to 10.30pm, starting from Monday 20 May 2024, at the Auditorium of the Benetton Studies Research Foundation, located in via Cornarotta n. 7 in the historic center of Treviso.
