Coach Vela Messina, Barbera resigns as president of the club

After two no-longer-renewable mandates, his mandate was expiring and Vice President Carlo Mencaroni took his place, awaiting elections

MESSINA – Movements at the top, in Viale della Libertà, at the most important tennis club in the city where the president has changed. This week, during the shareholders’ meeting, Antonio Barbera resigned. The president who served two terms, almost eight years, would have left in the coming weeks anyway and was no longer renewable.

Barbera was a visionary who favored the sporting side by bringing the Peloritano club to the top of Italy for men, just last season in December 2023 and before that twice in the Scudetto final, two bitter defeats in 2021 and 2019. To take on the Presidency of the Tennis and Sailing Club, for the ordinary management and pending the new elections, was the vice-president, Carlo Mencaroni, historical member, sailor and tennis player.
