The victory in the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 went to Nemo, a Swiss artist who is a symbol of the LGBT+ community. The artist triumphed on the stage of the Malmo Arena in Sweden with the song ‘The Code’, which obtained 591 points, compared to 547 for the artist from Croatia, who came second. “I hope that this competition keeps the promise of standing up for the peace and dignity of every person in this world”, Nemo’s reaction after the success. The 24-year-old rapper defines himself as a non-binary person: in German he wants to be identified with the neutral pronoun, in English with they. Non-binary people can identify as both male and female, somewhere in the middle or completely outside of these categories. In addition to him, the Irish Bambie Thug was also present in the singing competition as a non-binary person.
“The world in reverse is increasingly nauseating”, the words used by General Roberto Vannacci, independent candidate with the League at the European Championships, to comment on the Eurovision evening and Nemo’s record on his social channels. The soldier used the title of his bestselling book, not hiding behind political correctness this time either.
