Aurora Borealis effect – An extraordinary solar storm provided a breathtaking spectacle in the skies of Umbria on the evening of Friday 10 May, transforming the darkness of the night into an explosion of lights red-purple visible from several cities in the region. Gubbio, Norcia, Lake Trasimeno and Terni were just some of the lucky places to witness this phenomenon unique, which captured the attention of many citizens and fueled a real wave of photos shared on social networks.

However, experts clarified that what they observed was not a real auroral phenomenon, but rather the result of the solar storm, which generated the phenomenon of the Sar, also known as “arcs of red light”. These luminous arpeggios, typical of strong geomagnetic storms, colored the sky with red and purple shades, creating a magical and surreal atmosphere.

In addition to the Sar, it was observed also the phenomenon known as Steve, characterized by a beam of purple light of great intensity. Both phenomena, although distinct from the traditional Northern Lights, have contributed to transforming the Umbrian night into a unique and evocative spectacle.

According to the forecasts of the expertsit is likely that the phenomenon will persist in the next few days, offering the inhabitants of Umbria and central Italy a further opportunity to admire the beauty and grandeur of nature, which, once again, has demonstrated its ability to surprise us and enchant us with its splendor.
