The congested traffic along the road from Via Irno to Brignano created chaos and inconvenience for the people who went to the Salerno cemetery in the morning. The few policemen present (the others involved in the Pedalando per la Città sports event) did everything possible to avoid the traffic jams. The situation, as was predictable due to the concomitance of overlapping appointments in a city without rules and organization, got out of hand.
The lack of adequate traffic regulation was particularly critical on a day like Mother’s Day, when the flow of visitors to the cemetery is traditionally high. It was desirable to postpone Pedalando per la città to the following Sunday to avoid problems.
The cars, parked wildly on both sides of the road, further complicated traffic along an already narrow roadway. There are many complaints from citizens dealing with traffic, the increases in prices of flowers and candles and above all the suffocating presence of illegal parking attendants who have contributed to the disorder.
