Having roughly defined the starting team, with De Cecco as setter, Buchegger as opposite, Davyskiba and Gutierrez (or Rinaldi) of Banda, Anzani and Sanguinetti in the centre, Modena Volley is now concentrating on the bench, the transfers, the new signings and above all a a structure that Giuliani hopes will be more solid and with more alternatives than that of last year. In the season just ended, it is no mystery, the technical project envisages a more constant use of the double substitution with Boninfante and Pinali, a double substitution which would have been even more useful given the somewhat fluctuating performance of Sapozhkov. Precisely in the role of opposite, the weakness of the last Valsa Group market was discovered: Russian did not perform according to expectations, also blocked by the language (no one spoke Russian in Modena, unlike in Verona); furthermore, it took Giulio Pinali much longer than the Geminian staff had hoped to recover from the very serious ankle injury that had prematurely ended his season when he was in Siena.
Modena should have identified the second setter, who could be the Dutch international Sil Meijs; on the opposite he played to cover himself well, with a certainty like Buchegger and a powerful arm to be discovered in the Super League like that of Ikhbayri. There is no certain peak in performance, not the big name, but this time if necessary the coach will have the weapons to change. Without considering that Davyskiba, the safe local band, will have Rinaldi and Gutierrez at their side, and will still be able to return to place two if necessary. We will have to work on the performance of the free throws, to guarantee De Cecco a ball as close to the net as possible, as often as possible, while it will be a great battle in the centre. Having quickly greeted Brehme and Sighinolfi, the four-man department is very heterogeneous but also balanced: Sanguinetti and Stankovic have been side by side for three seasons, Anzani is a total guarantee, Pardo Mati is a bet that many other teams envy in Modena, and he is not excluded that he can play a starting role right from the start. In short, a Modena with a very balanced sextet with respect to the bench, in which the only truly granitic hierarchy today seems to be that of De Cecco.
