Utlac, the ultratrail festival around Lake Como

The days in the Como area dedicated to UTLAC, the ultratrail of Lake Como, continue in the name of enthusiasm. During the night between Friday and Saturday, the arrivals at the finish line of the competitors of the longest race of 254 kilometres, with a positive difference in altitude of 12430 metres, while yesterday the new entry of the event, the Utlac60, took place, and tomorrow the race will end event with Utlac30.

Let’s rewind the tape and take a step back to early Friday afternoon, when Tirano Daniele Nava won the third edition of the Utlac250, reaching the finish line on the Lecco lakeside after 43h42’28” from the start, establishing a new record of the race and leaving a gap of over 4h30′ on all his opponents, starting from the Roman Alessandro Roncato (Maddalene Sky Team) who finished 2nd in 48h21’46”. He thought about completing the men’s podium Emanuele Ludovisi (D+Trail) in 48h25’44”, while behind her the 4th overall position went to the female winner, the Spanish Silvia Trigueros Garrote, (Team Scarpa), who reached Lecco just before 9pm, repeated last year’s success and stopped the clock at 50h43’40, improving by a good 8 hours compared to the last edition. With her they climbed the women’s podium Valentina Michielli of Team Vibram, 2nd in 52h56’29”, and the Swiss Denise Zimmermann, 3rd in 58h48’19”. 5th place for Guendalina Siboni (Runcard) in 61h21’15”, 6th place Valeria Carusi (Sport Project Vco) in 66h03’23”. In the very first positions, 5th place should be noted Luca ChiloviRoncato’s teammate, in 51h31’25” and 6th of Luca Guerini (Bione Trailers Team) in 52h37’11”.

Today there is space for the Utlac 60, a race over a distance of 64.6 kilometers with a positive difference in altitude of 3580 meters which started from Piazza Cavour at 7.30 in the morning and which with its route united the two Larian provinces of Como and Lecco passing through the intermediate point of Bellagio. Sold out race with 400 competitors at the start which recorded the successes of Jonathan Cogliati (Runcard) and the Belgian Dominique Van Mechgelen thus inaugurating the race’s roll of honour. Cogliati completed the test in 7h23’51” with an advantage of 10’32” over the Swiss Thomas Besomiwhile the first athlete from Lecco arrived in 3rd position, that is Moreno Sala by Bosisio Parini, representative of the Gsa Cometa, stopping the clock at 7h39’39”. The German placed himself at the foot of the podium Jacob Scherwitz in 7h49’28” and the Bergamo Mauro Rota (Gs Orobie) in 7h54’48”. Van Mechgelen did very well in the women’s race and, crossing the finish line in 8h39’11”, achieved a prestigious 10th place overall. She placed in 2nd position Chiara Boggio (Durbano Gas Energy Rivarolo) in 8h56’36” and in 3rd Svetlana Ciobanu (Passport) in 9h14’41”.

Tomorrow we will run the Utlac30, 30 km long with a D+ of 1872 metres, starting from the Bellagio lakefront and arriving around midday on the Lecco lakeside after having run on the second part of the Utlac 60 route.
