Prof slapped, trial begins. From Bergamo to Puglia to follow the preliminary hearing – CoratoLive.it

Enzo Amorese, the teacher from Corato who was slapped by the father of one of his students on whom he had “dared” to inflict a disciplinary note, has returned to Puglia even if only for a few days. In fact, he wanted to be present at the first preliminary hearing against the man who broke into the school and violently beat him, only to then leave undisturbed.

An event that caused a huge stir not only due to the gravity of the incident but also due to the consequences that the affair had. Professor Amorese, in fact, was accused by his student of having had attitudes that were unsuitable for his role as a teacher. A circumstance, the investigators later established, was completely unfounded. Enzo Amorese, however, found himself isolated, and even had to defend himself against the accusations of his school director who endorsed the student’s completely imaginative reconstruction.

Enzo Amorese appeared in court in the proceedings against his attacker, accused of aggravated assault and interruption of public service. The teacher became a civil party in the trial; the Majorana institute in Bari, the school where the attack occurred, has instead given up on turning itself in.

The judge rejected the 35-year-old defendant’s request for probation, so the defense chose the abbreviated trial. She was also the choice for the 30-year-old on trial for the same crime, having accompanied the girl’s father to school.

After the unfortunate episode, Professor Amorese no longer taught in the Majorana of Bari. He experienced a period of strong fears and psychological stress that kept him away from the teaching post for a long period. Today he teaches at an institute in Bergamo which, ironically, is named after Ettore Majorana. «I decided to leave Puglia and return to live in Bergamo, now I am at peace because I teach in a school worthy of being called such» stated the teacher.

What happened in Bari is fortunately only a memory but which, however, leaves his soul full of bitterness. His life changed once again: he took his family and moved back to the north to live peacefully.

In his homeland he had to experience not only violence for having written a note to the “wrong” person, but also isolation from colleagues and students who never showed him support and closeness.
