“The company’s silence on the many topics under discussion and the latest events confirm the game of massacre underway on the newspaper and website of the center. It is not just a trade union issue of downsizing the workforce and protecting jobs: it is rather a question of quality of information in Abruzzo and pluralism. Of principles of democracy that are gradually disappearing.
Journalists, surprised by the silence of the institutions, have reacted in recent months by redoubling their efforts. Our gratitude is measured by the workloads that we have endured and continue to endure on a daily basis (to the limit of physical resistance) to keep up a newspaper that has established itself thanks also to the credibility and work of every single editor and collaborator. The company, however, continues to cut to the detriment of the journalistic product regardless of events and readers’ needs. There are those, journalists, who see the sacrifices made for years to create the information reference point in our region go up in smoke; and those who, the company’s management, instead work to progressively reduce what was built by others.
By virtue of the mandate of the assembly, the Cdr proclaims a day of abstention from professional activity for Saturday 11 May.
With the strike on Saturday 11 May we are giving up another day of work and its pay so as not to give up our dignity. And to those principles of impartiality and balance that are indispensable in view of the commitments that await us. We appeal to the institutions – at all levels – to address the problem before it is too late and we apologize to readers and newsstands, our precious points of reference.”
