Casteldaccia massacre: slow recovery for the surviving worker

Prayers are all for him. For the sixth worker who miraculously survived the Casteldaccia tragedy, where five of his colleagues died. It will take another 96 hours for the doctors of the Palermo Polyclinic to lift the life reserve for the sixth worker involved in the workplace accident in Casteldaccia which caused the death of five of his colleagues. From the Intensive Care Unit of the Emergency Department of the Polyclinic, directed by Professor Antonino Giarratano, they let it be known that “the process of weaning from controlled ventilation continues, ventilatory mechanics improves and the neurological picture confirms the positive trend of slow recovery”.
“There remains a high risk of infectious complications linked to what has already been communicated on the toxicity of the hydrogen sulfide fumes released by the sewage that hit the worker – continues the medical bulletin – and also to the condition of immunosuppression which affects patients in intensive treatment and which is monitored and treated according to guidelines. It is necessary to verify the trend of the next 96 hours in order to resolve the current reserved prognosis on life”.
