the ANM of Piedmont and Valle d’Aosta against Salvini

The council of the ANM (National Association of Magistrates) of Piedmont and Valle d’Aosta «takes note, incredulous and disconcerted, of the serious statements made today (10 May, ed.) by Matteo Salvini during a public demonstration held in Turin , in which he intervened in his institutional capacity as minister”. In particular, from the Book Fair, «with reference to the investigations by the Genoa Prosecutor’s Office – which led to the application of precautionary measures against, among others, the governor of the Liguria Region – Salvini commented by stating: “If
we put a bug in the magistrates’ offices, I would like to see how many would still work”. Once again a political representative of the Government took the opportunity to attack the work of the magistrates, unmotivated and without specific references to the merits of the facts, so
offending the dignity and decorum of the entire judiciary.”

«Thus the judiciary is delegitimized»

And again: «In this period of lively institutional confrontation – we read again in the note from the local council of the ANM – the judiciary, which carries out its duty in an impartial manner, is delegitimized in the essence of its function through interventions of political exponents who they attack the category and question its transparency, loyalty to the Constitution and professional ethics, without however subjecting individual decisions to reasoned criticism. The ANM council hopes for a calm and constructive dialogue between the institutions, based on mutual respect for roles, and hopes for the future that similar episodes will not be repeated.”
