Giro d’Italia in Perugia, the impressions of tourists and residents


The seventh stage of the Giro d’Italia Foligno-Perugia opens. The arrival in the Umbrian capital brings together at least 3 thousand visitors to the city, who flocked to the historic centre, between Corso Vannucci and Corso Cavour to see the arrival of the cyclists of the time trial on Friday 10 May. Enthusiasts but also simply curious to watch the race. Umbria24 collected the opinions of spectators and some traders.

Finland, Belgium, United States of America, Austria, Ukraine and many other countries were the countries from which spectators flocked to the seventh stage of the Giro d’Italia. Many foreign tourists, some arrived in Perugia specifically for the sporting event, others also to visit the city. Regarding the tourist influx, the traders report “a good movement, perhaps in terms of work we expected a little more, but it is a nice spot for the city”. Many Umbrians, both from Perugia and beyond, arrived in Corso Vannucci out of curiosity: “The Giro in the city is beautiful, we hope it will boost tourism.”

Among the enthusiasts present on the sides of the barricades was also Luca Panichi, a cyclist from hand bike Magionese, who expresses satisfaction for the event in Perugia: «The Giro passes through a fabulous area of ​​Umbria, today there will be nice surprises along the route, also due to the strong wind, the differences between the athletes in the ranking will emerge».
