ROVIGO – “Pelvic functional homeostasis: from holistic understanding to successful treatment solutions”, is the title of the conference, part of the 7th edition of “I Monotematici Rodigini”, which was held on Thursday 9 and Friday 10 May in the Aula Magna of the Cittadella Sociosanitary of Rovigo open to doctors, physiotherapists, nurses and midwives. A conference that dealt with a topic as delicate as it is complex and which requires multifunctional attention which, from diagnosis to treatment, involves numerous professionals. The conference was organized and strongly supported by Dr Luigi Losacco (photo above), Head of the Multidisciplinary Week Surgery-Day Surgery Simple Operational Unit of the Trecenta Hospital, pertaining to the Surgical Department of the Polesana Aulss 5. This service represents an organizational care model that manages the pre-hospitalisation centre, the protected surgical outpatient/outpatient service and therapeutic diagnostic outpatient service, the enterostomist outpatient service and the Week Surgery/Day Surgery Department of the Trecenta Hospital.
Prehospitalization center. During 2023, approximately 1200 patients. The Center guarantees the care of the patient through a preparation process for the operation which provides a single hospital access for all pre-operative checks, reducing waiting times and optimizing resources. With homogeneous and equal methods for all departments, it organizes, coordinates and implements the pre-surgical path of patients to be sent for elective surgery for ordinary hospitalizations, Week Surgery, Day Surgery, protected outpatient.
There Week Surgery, however, guarantees the care of “scheduled” patients to undergo elective surgical interventions, invasive or semi-invasive diagnostic and/or therapeutic procedures, with a stay limited to 5 working days of the week. The interventions and procedures that can be included in the Week Surgery regime are characterized by postoperative observation lasting more than 24 hours, which normally does not exceed 72 hours and which in any case allows the patient to be discharged within 4 days of the operation. The Week Surgery of Trecenta has a total of 20 beds which includes the following surgical specialties: General Surgery Rovigo and Trecenta, Functional Pelvic Surgery (Combined Proctological + Uro-Gynecological Surgery), Vascular Surgery, Neurosurgery, Ophthalmology, ENT, Orthopaedics, Gynaecology, Urology, General Surgery Adria. In 2023 the surgical activity of the Week Surgery of Trecenta recorded a number slightly lower than 3 thousand surgical operations.
The Diagnostic Therapeutic Outpatient Service guarantees outpatient evaluation, post-surgery checks, medications, multidisciplinary pelvic assessments and the possible care of patients who undergo interventions and/or other specialized procedures on an outpatient basis. It is estimated that in 2023 the Outpatient/Protected Surgical Outpatient Service and the Diagnostic Therapeutic Outpatient Service of Trecenta Hospital had access approximately 3200 patients.
Center for the diagnosis and treatment of functional pelvic disorders. In the Polesine Ulss5 Company, the Multidisciplinary Pelvic Group was born spontaneously in 2008, made up of the three surgical branches involved (Gynaecologist, Urologist and Proctologist) with the involvement in the clinical project of other specialist figures (such as Gastroenterologist, Physiatrist, Neurologist, Rehabilitation Therapists , Nutritionist); the Multidisciplinary Pelvic Clinic is therefore established with care of patients throughout the entire diagnostic and therapeutic process, including Combined Surgery. The rationally functional model of the Rodigino Pelvic Center becomes an example for other regional and national companies, thanks to the appreciation of various scientific societies. In 2018, the articulated structure well consolidated over the years allows the Polesine Pelvic Center to achieve recognition as a Level III centre. The number of patients evaluated in the Multidisciplinary Pelvic Clinic Rovigo/Trecenta is approximately 250 per year. Those for whom a rehabilitation process is then started are approximately one hundred. About 40 per year, however, are started on the combined surgical path, while those who are started on the surgical path (functional proctology only) are approximately 400 per year.
