At the end of a complex investigative activity coordinated by the commander of the Port Authority of Viareggio Silvia Briniunder the investigative direction of the deputy prosecutor Sara Polino, the Coast Guard soldiers interrupted – along the Versilia fish supply chain – a criminal activity, which according to the prosecution was managed by a single fisherman to the detriment of the consumer and numerous businesses commercial.

In recent days, the soldiers of the Port Authority of Viareggio, on the orders of the prosecutor, carried out a search decree in the home of a fisherman and an illegal room was found, used for the processing of clams, without health authorisations.

The fish product, once caught, according to the accusation, was cooked, shelled, cooled and subsequently stored in polypropylene containers to then be frozen with the cooking water. The packs of cockle cores were then placed on the market with incorrect traceability documents.

During the judicial police activity, the military seized 88 PVC trays containing, each, 400 grams of cockle cores without labelling, corresponding to 35 kilograms of frozen fish product.

The fish product – after having been analyzed by the food safety and veterinary health service of the ASL Toscana Nord Ovest, which collaborated in the complex investigation activity – was donated to charity.
