PORDENONE – A police operation has put an end to the continuous thefts in the gynecology department of the Pordenone hospital, nailing the person responsible. The thief was caught in the trap set by the officers, who, having installed cameras in a room and simulated a shelter, managed to catch her in the act while she stole cash from the wallet left temporarily unattended. The social health worker, resident in the province, responsible for aggravated theft in some rooms of the Santa Maria degli Angeli was reported. The woman accompanied to the police station was released in a state of freedom.
How he acted
The methods of the theft were always the same. As yesterday, also previously, to carry out the blow he waited until the patient and any visiting family members were out of the room or, in some cases, until she was in the delivery room. Free rooms, empty of patients, so as to have plenty of time to manage to tear up some banknotes. In fact, in a short time – the video released by the Police shows rapid action, less than twenty seconds – he accessed the room, rummaged through the drawers, jackets and clothes, and having found money or precious jewellery, he left the camp. Several reports of incidents of theft of cash and jewelery have been recorded in recent months.
The thefts
At least eight confirmed thefts committed between March 2023 and February 2024 in which over 1200 euros in cash and precious jewelery worth 2000 euros were stolen. But let’s go back to yesterday, when the woman, thinking that she could win again, unfortunately fell into the hands of justice.
Oss caught stealing in the department
In consideration of the seriousness of the facts, the Flying Squad made a request to prosecutor Andrea Del Missier for the installation of cameras both inside the corridor of the aforementioned department and inside a hospital room specifically identified in order to identify the perpetrators of the thefts. In particular, in agreement with the proceeding judicial authority, to frame the thief, a fake shelter was staged inside the room equipped with cameras. The patient in question was a Mobile policewoman while other staff were dedicated to viewing the images taken by the installed camera in real time. Around 3pm the agent left the room pretending to have to undergo a medical examination, leaving her wallet inside the bedside drawer, with the sum of 100 euros in banknotes of various denominations previously photocopied inside.
Shortly after, a social health worker entered the room where the agent was falsely hospitalized, taking a 50 euro banknote contained inside the purse. Immediately blocked by the staff of the Flying Squad and the hospital police, the stolen banknote emerged from the search. Further investigations are underway in order to verify the responsibility of the arrested woman also for the other thefts that occurred in recent months.
