The eyes of Milan on the best midfielder of the last World Cup. The Rossoneri, in fact, have expressed their interest and made the first direct contacts for Sofyan Amrabat, which had been included by FIFA in the top 11 of Qatar 2022. During the world championship, Huizen’s Octopus, as the Moroccan international is nicknamed, had highlighted himself as the leader and driving force of the North African team which achieved a sensational fourth place. Monumental performances characterized by an extraordinary ability to recover balls and reverse the offensive front, which had earned him the award as best defensive midfielder of the competition. A very high performance that had attracted the eyes of half of Europe to the former Verona. With Barcelona, Liverpool and Manchester United having courted him for months. In the end it was the Red Devils who won him, who at the end of the 2023 summer session brought him to Old Trafford on a costly loan (10 million) with the right to buy (20 million). An operation with decidedly high prices, given how much it cost him to “rent” Amrabat for this season.
Amrabat towards farewell to United
However, something went wrong in the Premier League. Thanks to United’s great seasonal difficulties, the 1996-born team was unable to replicate the performances it provided at the World Cup and in the second round it even sank into the reserves. In this sense there is a clear fact: the last appearance from the first minute dates back to 17 December during the big match against Liverpool. The clear sign of how the feeling with Ten Hag never blossomed, so much so that the Dutch coach (he had been among the main sponsors of his arrival last summer…) has already announced to his managers his desire not to buy him out. And so in a few weeks Amrabat will pack his bags to return to Florence. In Tuscany, however, he will only be passing through. His contract expires in 2025 and the midfielder aims to get back into the game elsewhere. And this is where the Devil comes in.
