With solemn tones in the heart of a Vicenza already full of black feathers, the ninety-fifth National Alpine Gathering officially opened on Friday morning. In the square colored by all the Ana banners of Italy and the world, with the soundtrack of the Fanfare of the Julia Brigade, the ceremony first saw the parade of the banners, the Ana banner and the banner of the Ana Vicenza “Monte Pasubio” section, then it it was the turn of the flag raising, then the honoring of the fallen with the laying of the wreath at the foot of the commemorative plaque. All authorities present.
The slogan chosen for themeeting of 2024 is particularly evocative: «The Alpine corps’ dream of peace». And it couldn’t fall into a more difficult period for international balances. But Vicenza is much more than just another destination, to celebrate the 95th edition of the gathering which will bring four hundred thousand people to the city, 80 thousand of whom will parade on Sunday in an atmosphere of celebration, remembrance and commemoration.
The roots
In fact, it is precisely in Vicenza that the Alpini will rediscover their true roots, as the national president of the ANA admits, Sebastiano Favero. Also for the blood tribute paid by the Corps which, in its history, defended Italy by fighting bepic battles both in the Great War both in the Second World War. It is no coincidence that the same logo chosen for the 2024 gathering recalls places that have entered history, in which determination, courage, sense of belonging have marked the destiny of the entire country: a heart divided into four, to symbolize the Ossuary Shrines of the province: Pasubio, Monte Grappa, Monte Cimone and Asiago. All this while the Corps, which today has 9,000 personnel in two brigades, continues the process of evolution, including technological, and professionalization.
