On Sunday 12 May the Fontana dei Due Fiumi by Graziosi, in Largo Garibaldi, will be illuminated with purple light on the occasion of World Fibromyalgia Day. The “Let’s shed light on fibromyalgia” initiative is promoted by CFU (United Fibromyalgia Committee) Italia odv and the special lighting is created with the collaboration of Hera Servizi Energy.

Fibromyalgia is a chronic pain syndrome characterized by dysfunction of the neurological circuits responsible for the perception, transmission and processing of pain from the periphery to the brain. It is not a psychosomatic disease, nor a rheumatic disease nor even a rare disease given that the incidence on the population is estimated between 2 and 4 percent. It mainly affects women between 25 and 60 years of age, although cases in pediatric age or adolescence are not rare. To date, the recognition of Fibromyalgia in Italy is not yet at a national level, but patchy in various regions. However, several motions in this regard have been filed in Parliament and a petition with around 100,000 signatures has been delivered to the Ministry of Health for the recognition of Fibromyalgia and inclusion in the LEAs.
