Two candidates, if elected, would leave two seats in the Senate to the first of the non-elected ones.
Everyone knows that in June we will vote for the European elections but not everyone knows that based on some electoral results the province of Ragusa could be directly affected by these elections.
As? By the game of odds he could have two new senators. It would be about Orazio Ragusa and of Agata Iacono wife of the current mayor of Giarratana Bartolo Giaquinta.
Perhaps saying both is a bit exaggerated because the seats are those that are for the European elections and therefore we will have to understand who will be able to go to Brussels between the current senator of the League Antonino Germanà and the senator of the Democratic Party Antonio Nicita. But what links the two current senators to the names of Orazio Ragusa and Agata Iacono?
Both are the first of the non-elected in the corresponding lists to enter Palazzo Madama, so if one of the two senators or both were elected to the European Parliament they would have to resign and make way for those who came in second place in 2022. For the series, the last, or in this case the second, will be the first considering that both nominations had been fillers of the list and therefore basically without any real pretension.
Today, however, things could change for both of them and perhaps they are starting to think about it.
Above all Orazio Ragusa who after four legislatures as a regional member of the Ars who remained out of the political game could return to vogue and take great revenge against his city Scicli which abandoned him, some current regional member who would like to try to conquer his territory and also of his current party the League, which we are sure, will be ready to leave if the miracle does not happen, as many are doing in this period given that the wind does not seem to be blowing in favor of Salvini and his party which is said to be in decline compared to previous European elections.
So much so that in the distribution of the 8 seats foreseen for the European Parliament, while two are given for certain for FDI, one for FI, one for the PD and one for Cateno De Luca, the fate of the other three remains uncertain. In the last elections two were from the League but now the polls say that it is not in very good shape. The goal is to save at least one seat. However, everything will also depend on the percentage of people who go to vote.
And this is why Giarratana is mobilizing en masse to vote for Senator Nicita and send her to Brussels so that she can become a senator Agata Iaconowho to tell the truth, in addition to being the wife of the current mayor, is also secretary of the provincial order of architects and president of the AMMI (Italian doctors’ wives association).
Having a senator ‘in the house’ which for a small municipality like this would be truly extraordinary. Mayor Giaquinta, who is the current provincial secretary of the Democratic Party, hopes that his Dem friends in other municipalities will also help him get the vote for Senator Nicita, to favor his wife. Will it really be like this?
We will see, in the meantime between Ragusa and Iacono, the latter seems to have more possibilities for the game of probabilities and for the uphill results of the Democratic Party than the Northern League member Orazio Ragusa who at this point will have to understand who to count on to get the vote for Senator Germanà.
In fact, we know that in the province of Ragusa the League is not in a very good situation: the leader or former leader, Nino Minardo, federated with Cesa’s UDC, then some defections occurred such as that of Andrea La Rosa who, after the disappointment of the regional elections he left the League to join Forza Italia.
The provincial coordinator Salvo Mallia (who also disappeared from the scene) does not comment on this but declares that “in politics we need coherence” even if at this moment more than coherence Orazio Ragusa would need luck, so to speak.
