“We are disconcerted by ASL Lecce’s about-turn on reimbursements for urgent medical visits and diagnostic tests, carried out privately by users who were unable to obtain a reservation at the Cup within the expected time frame” – declares Paolo Pagliaro, regional councilor of La Puglia Domani.

2What is a right denied until now, and which we had requested with an inspection at the Cup of the former Vito Fazzi hospital two weeks ago, had finally been recognized by the management of the local health authority of Lecce, which with a note dated 24 April had ordered the adoption of a form to be distributed to users, for the request for reimbursement in the case of visits and tests carried out intra moenia or at specialists or private facilities, to be delivered to the offices of the director of the socio-health district of residence. But – adds Pagliaro -, incredibly, after two weeks, yesterday the form was ordered to be withdrawn from the Cup counters, ‘pending a more detailed definition of the content and operation of the company path outlined therein’. Translated from bureaucratic dialect: stop, waiting for new provisions. A provision whose immediate revocation is requested by the ASL Directorate, so that the right to treatment denied until now is guaranteed. Unable to book visits and tests in public or affiliated healthcare facilities due to saturated diaries and unsustainable waiting times, and not being able to afford paid visits and tests, many citizens had in fact given up on treatment. With our action – concludes the regional councilor -, we have instead asked that the Lecce Local Health Authority and all the Apulian Local Health Authorities respect the legal provisions of the National Waiting List Government Plan. We therefore ask that the form be immediately made available to users, and that the Cup operators inform and assist users in requesting reimbursement from the ASL”.
