ANCONA – The municipal council has ruled in favor of the institution of the figure of Animal Rights Guarantor, sending the proposal back to the city council for final approval. The Guarantor – who will operate free of charge – will be a person designated by the Mayor after consulting the Council for the welfare and protection of animals.
He will be the Administration’s contact person for the protection of pets, prevention of stray animals and correct coexistence with citizens; will coordinate the animal rights associations that are part of the municipal council, will receive reports and complaints, will report facts that can be considered as crimes to the competent authority, will promote awareness campaigns in agreement with the councilor and with the council, will contribute to the implementation of pilot projects, will request prevention and repression of abuse, and more, in collaboration with municipal offices.
The introduction of the Guarantor – foreseen in the programmatic lines of mandate regarding the protection of animals – requires an amendment to the municipal regulation in art. 51 (bis). The animal rights council, which met last November 28 in the Municipality, had given a favorable opinion to the proposal, as well as others aimed at animal welfare.
