Uniting the new frontiers of pediatrics by relating them to the bioethical aspects that derive from them. This is the focus of the medical conference “Spring of Pediatrics – Reflections on a changing pediatrics”, scheduled for Saturday 11 May at the Hotel Nettuno in Catania, in Viale Ruggero di Lauria, 121.

A multidisciplinary comparison between different approaches and common challenges in pediatric practice to contribute to sharing better solutions tailored to the young patient and his family. The speakers, analyzing their clinical experiences during the various sessions, will above all give space to the medicine of the immediate future: from gene therapy to the possible applications of Artificial Intelligence in particular areas, such as the pediatric emergency room. But also the influence of art, such as music or painting, understood as care for the soul, capable of impacting the cognitive development of the child.

“The aim of the conference is to combine an information activity regarding the new frontiers of paediatrics – explains Dr. Antonino Gulino, family pediatrician and national representative of the Italian Federation of Pediatricians, scientific director of the event together with Dr. Alberto Fischer, President of the Paidos cultural association.

“I am referring in particular to gene therapy, which is increasingly gaining ground in the pediatric field. But we will also talk about neuroscience, the birth of consciousness and a whole series of issues related to bioethics, about which much has already been done in the philosophical field but which is now also taking place from a scientific point of view”, continues Dr. Gulino.

“We will also discuss new therapies regarding childhood obesity and how to treat bad eating habits in children, especially considering the spread of type 2 diabetes in pediatric patients. The aim – he concludes – is to invest in the future of the child, halfway between the new frontiers and an ethical reflection on what our profession is”.
