We have already seen the scene that took place today at the fourth edition of the General States of Natality, underway in Rome, which personally involved the Minister for the Family Eugenia Roccellaonce again at the center of the protesters’ sights.
“Shame, shame!” some young people shouted from the audience as soon as Roccella took the floor, displaying some signs bearing the words “I decide”. After an initial back and forth between the parties, the minister left the Auditorium.
The precedents: the Book Fair
But it is not the first episode of protest aimed at Roccella. On May 20, 2023, the minister took part in the Turin Book Fair to present her most recent volume, published in 2023, “Una Famiglia Radical”. This was before a group of feminists and activists prevented its presentation, shouting: “I decide about my body.” The militants were sitting in the audience, and one of the activists approached the speakers’ table reading a statement. Even in that case the minister had tried to dialogue from the stage with the activists: “If you don’t also address the issue of the rented uterus, you are not credible”.
The other public protests
The same controversial aspect also occurred in Polignano a Marewhen Roccella, a guest at the “Il Libro Possible” festival, expressed her opinion on the affair involving Ignazio la Russa’s son, Leonardo Apache La Russa, who was investigated for alleged sexual violence against a 22-year-old.
“I won’t go into individual cases and the reactions of a person who has an emotional relationship – the minister said in response to journalists’ questions – What I can say is that La Russa is the one who for the first time proposed an all-men demonstration against violence against women, because this is not just a problem for women but also for men. This already seems to me to be an answer.” Protests from the square were immediate.
