There are 14 sports disciplines that will characterize the long series of ‘Play the Games’, an event that goes beyond sport and allows one to bring out the challenges with oneself and the opportunities for personal and social growth through sport. The rich calendar includes 7 major events which, until June, will cross Italy for 23 days of competition.

The Organizing Committees on the Italian territory that will host the Play The Games work to ensure the realization of events of the highest level which, through the involvement of the institutions, the world of schools and volunteers, hope to leave an indelible mark on the territory capable of encourage, through knowledge, the overcoming of still widespread phenomena such as marginalization, segregation, indifference and bullying. «Through the Special Olympics you learn that there shouldn’t be discrimination, I have Williams Syndrome and I learned to be myself, to be courageous – said the 27-year-old athlete, Eugenio Natali – at the Special Olympics there is no difference between teacher, athlete and partner, there is only love and friendship.”

The ‘Play the Games’ have already seen a first stage which took place in mid-April in Sabaudia, the next events will be in Lignano Sabbiadoro from 8 to 12 May (swimming); in Pistoia from 23 to 26 May (athletics, volleyball, golf); in Matera and Metaponto from 23 to 26 May (athletics, bowls, bowling, swimming); in Tivoli and Guidonia Montecelio from 31 May to 2 June (bowling and swimming); in Busseto, Fidenza, Noceto and Salsomaggiore from 7 to 9 June (athletics, badminton, bowls, horse riding, volleyball, rugby, table tennis); in Montecchio from 21st to 23rd June (bowling, karate, tennis).
