Europe Day celebrated in San Francesco: schools are the protagonists

The role of the European Parliament, the complexity of its functioning in the approval of a regulation or a decision, the meaning of being European citizens and the importance of voting. These are the topics discussed today (9 May) during the Europe Day promoted by the Province of Lucca and took place in the church of San Francesco, in Lucca. Themes which, in view of the European elections on 8 and 9 June, raise awareness and spread knowledge of European institutions, policies and strategies among young people. And they therefore reflect the mission of project Nice to meet Eu which intends to create a synergistic relationship between young people and Europe.

The video of the Schuman declaration, the starting point of the European integration process, and the Ode to Joy, sung by the students of Passaglia musical high school in Lucca, kicked off the final event of the project, promoted by the provincial administration and now in its third edition. An event that developed, as in previous editions, in a series of meetings in local high schools with representatives of Brussels institutions.

To open the Europe Day 2024 in Lucca, there were institutional greetings from the president of the Province Luca Menesini and the councilor of the Municipality of Lucca Nicola Buchignanias well as that of Ilaria Baronidirector ofProvincial school office.

They followed one another, with the moderation of Maria Linda Pessolanoa series of speeches focused on the theme of the event: Professor Daniele Pasquinucciprofessor of History of International Relations at the University of Siena, focused on European Parliament, on the EU, and on the elections of 8-9 June; followed by Ambassador Edu Lia Micciché he argued Training and mobility opportunities for young people in Europe; finally, Alessandro Rosati from the Giovanisì project spoke to present the detailed program of opportunities, incentives and supports intended for young people and made available by the Tuscany Region.

Then space for the students, protagonists of the event, who presented their works through videos focused on interesting topics related to the theme of this edition, such as artificial intelligence, gender equality, the use of renewables and the European elections .

The schools that took part in the third edition of the project Nice to meet Eu and who participated in Europe Day are the Isi Pertini of Lucca, the Chini-Michelangelo of Lido di Camaiore, the Isi Marconi of Viareggio and the Isi of Castelnuovo Garfagnana.

The day concluded with a musical performance, again by Passaglia High Schoolwith songs by Giacomo Puccinion the occasion of the celebration of the centenary of the master’s death.
