Padel and five-a-side football fields in Busto Arsizio: the garrison continues and the construction site comes to a halt. After last Monday’s protests – when a couple of activists climbed trees in the Sacconago area to stop the work – and the meeting with the administration at Palazzo Gilardoni the following day, this morning the protesters returned to Madonna in the country side.

Obtaining the temporary suspension of tree felling works. Mayor Emanuele Antonelli confirms that discussions are underway with the Ministry of Sport with the aim of understanding whether it is possible to partially review the project, thus “saving” some trees.
Whether and how this could happen is currently unknown. One hypothesis could be to create one less padel court or five-a-side football pitch (currently two per type are foreseen), using, if possible, the funds provided for by the “Sport and suburbs” tender for coverage which, due to the increases in raw material prices, is not foreseen in the latest version of the project.
If a negative response comes from the ministry, however, the project will be confirmed and work will resume.

At the moment, therefore, the chainsaws will remain turned off for at least a week. This, according to the mayor, is the minimum time we will have to wait to get feedback from Rome. But the wait could be even slightly longer.

In the meantime, as mentioned, the initiatives of citizens and associations against this intervention continue.
This morning they gathered again in the area near the athletics track to continue collecting signatures. And on the Facebook page of the activists of the Tanuki Group, an event is announced for Wednesday 15 May public meeting with citizenswhich the demonstrators had asked to organize during the town hall meeting with Antonelli and the city councilor responsible for greenery Orazio Tallarida.

The latter, among other things, announced that between autumn and winter the planting of new trees was already planned in various points of the city: in via per Samarate, via Valle Olona, via Pepe, via Espinasse, in the polyplex in via Rossini and in via della Ricordianza. In all it is about 374 new plants, with a cost of almost 240 thousand euros.
