GALLARATE – After Grand Prix in the Beginners category held last April 25th, spring on the pedals of SC Crennese continues on Sunday 12 May with the historic cycling event “La Crennese”, the vintage bike event now in its fourth edition.

Cyclists from times gone by

Initially scheduled for March and postponed due to adverse weather conditions, the ride is part of the circuit of “Historic cycling tours of Lombardy”, which touches all the Lombardy provinces and also the Canton of Ticino. As in previous years, on Sunday morning the cyclists in wool sweaters and bikes built before 1987 will meet at Villa Delfina. A “scenic” and curious moment, open to the entire neighborhood, among brightly colored bikes, vintage helmets, wool sweaters with now historic sponsors and the names of local cycling clubs and beyond.

The route proposed by “La Crennese” is 56 kilometers: the first part develops on the rolling hills where the city is lost in a countryside dotted with small villages. The first is expected here refreshment at the beautiful Cascina Castellazzo, one of the Exodus offices in the area. It is the second year that this stop has been offered, with Exodus volunteers who will also offer products baked from a wood-fired oven. The route will then touch the lakes of Varese and Comabbioin addition to the fascinating wetland of Palude Brabbia, crossed by a dirt road that leads to Varano Borghithe workers’ village that grew up around the textile factory, crossed by the long tree-lined avenue which constitutes one of the scenic points of the route.
The second part of the tour instead it touches the Ticino valleywith the passage from the area between Sesto Calende and Sommawhere the river runs between wooded hills: from here we will go back up towards Gallarate on the dirt road that crosses the “Little England” area, among historical testimonies linked to horse riding and the military presence. Arrival is scheduled for lunch time. For the occasion there will also be the possibility of visiting the historic center of Gallarate (via San Giovanni Bosco), the Palazzi historical museum, an exhibition that ranges from the nineteenth-century bicycle to the present day, passing through the Bersaglieri bikes and track bikes.

The second appointment for the centenary

After the Grand Prix Marco Limido Trophy in memory (which saw 124 starters), Sunday’s historic cycle is the second event proposed in 2024, the year in which the centenary of the Crennese Cycling Society. The event is scheduled for autumn and for which the company is obviously studying specific initiatives.
