The neighbor’s grass is always taller and more expensive

TERNI – It is a short step between the green city and the green city. To keep the million square meters of urban greenery in an acceptable condition, including that on the roadsides, at least one million euros a year is needed. An amount adequate to guarantee 8 grass clippings, those needed to avoid the jungle effect.
The most critical period of the year is the current one: the heat and rain of late spring. The vegetation has exploded, to the point of covering in some cases the road signs, even the sign indicating the beginning of the urban perimeter of Terni.
Until recently, Palazzo Spada looked after the greenery with 450 thousand euros a year. A totally insufficient figure. The Bandecchi council, at the cost of not lowering taxes as it could have done with the exit from the crisis, pushed us towards urban greenery. In 2023 he put in 250 thousand euros more, reaching a total of 700 thousand euros.
For this year he plans to do even better: close to one million and 200 thousand euros.
There are many critical issues and they do not only concern the number of cuts. To date, the mechanism of cutting the grass at the edges of the roads, collecting the clippings, as well as the many, too many wastes abandoned in the tall grass by uncivilized people remains cumbersome.
These operations are not part of the ongoing multi-year contract but require specific assignments, with further outlays of money.
From what we understand, the situation should change significantly only from next year, when the municipal administration will make a new tender for a five-year contract. The amount up for grabs is six million euros. Whoever wins the contract will have to take care of all the care of the greenery. Scissors in hand
