Set in rural Calabria in the 1940s, “My place is here” will be released in theaters today Thursday 9 May but has already taken home two awards during the “Bif&st 2024 – Bari International Film&Tv Festival”, where the film was presented in absolute preview in the ItaliaFilmFest/New Italian Cinema section.
Calabria will host the national preview and a presentation tour. It started yesterday, Wednesday 8 May, at 8.30 pm, from Reggio Calabria: the directors Cristiano Bortone and Daniela Porto met the audience of the Lumiere multiplex cinema together with the actors. On May 9th they will stop in Gerace for a double appointment, immediately after at the Cinema Teatro Nuovo in Siderno and at the Cinema Vittoria in Locri.
On May 10th appointment at the Cinema San Nicola in Cosenza. At 8.00pm Cristiano Bortone and Daniela Porto will greet the audience in the theater together with the leading actor Marco Leonardi and, at the end of the screening, a debate will be held on the film distributed by Adler Entertainment. Furthermore, the Mondadori bookshop in Cosenza organized an exclusive copy signing inside the cinema with Daniela Porto, author of the novel that inspired the film.
Saturday 11 Mayat 9.00 pm, actors and directors will stop at Cinema The Space in Catanzaro.
The events are promoted by Anec (National Association of Cinema Exhibitors) Calabria which, thanks to its president, Giuseppe Citrigno, has decided to support and promote the release of this film throughout the region. The film, in fact, was also shot in Gerace and produced with the support of the Calabria Film Commission Foundation, Apulia Film Commission and the Lazio Region, Fondo Lazio Cinema International.
The plot
And it is the leading actress Ludovica Martino who plays the role of the Calabrian girl, Marta, who is promised in marriage to a man she does not love. The plot of the film is taken from the novel of the same name written by Daniela Porto, in her debut as director and screenwriter, and published by Sperlink & Kupfer.
The day after the end of the Second World War, in a small Calabrian town, the meeting between Marta, a single mother promised in marriage to a farmer older than her, and Lorenzo, the local homosexual known as “the wedding organizer ”, gives birth to a deep friendship that leads the young girl to challenge the prejudices that surround them and to fight for her place in the world as a woman.
“My place is here” is a story of female courage and self-determination, winner of the Best Director award “for having told with strength, simplicity and respect an exemplary story of emancipation and fight against prejudice in an apparently distant place and time” .
