Healthcare: the territorial operations center is born in Crotone

Healthcare comes closer to citizens, reducing spending and pressure on hospitals and ensuring the coordinated development of local healthcare. On Tuesday 14 May at 11 am the COT, the territorial operations center of Crotone, will be inaugurated, the first activated among the twenty-one planned in Calabria by the Regional Operational Plan of the PNRR, approved by the governor Roberto Occhiuto, as commissioner ad acta. The Crotone structure and the one nearing completion in Mesoraca constitute the two COTs envisaged by the PNRR as regards the Crotone provincial health authority, led by the extraordinary commissioner Antonio Brambilla. Funded by the PNRR, the COT will carry out the function of coordinating the care of patients and liaison between services and professionals, through an innovative organizational model, in order to ensure continuity, accessibility and integration of health and social care, ensuring the standards of interoperability and the interface with hospitals and the emergency-urgency network.

The aim of the COT is to guarantee a new network organisation, where the services and professionals of the system are connected, integrated and available to the population in local structures, designed for multidisciplinary management. The patient will therefore be able to follow a defined care path, which will accompany him from the beginning, starting from the general practitioner, up to discharge and post-hospitalization and will also be followed in follow-up and rehabilitation. Furthermore, the territorial operations center will provide information and logistical support to the network’s professionals regarding district activities and services, as well as monitoring patients in home care, also through telemedicine tools and management of the technological support platform for taking charge of the person, in order to collect and classify needs.

The Crotone COT was born from the renovation of part of the building that houses 118, some clinics and the CSM, in via delle Nazioni Unite, in the Tufolo district. The structure has suitable dimensions and a strategic position, being in a peripheral neighborhood, with direct entrance from the main road and being served by public transport. It has a size of over 130 net square meters, of which approximately 75 are reserved for the coordination and monitoring rooms and the IT technical office.

The renovation and adaptation works of the environments and systems, for which European resources amounting to approximately 170,000 euros were used, began in June 2023 and ended in March 2024. The interconnection interventions, i.e. software platform, central telephone and voip telephones, were created thanks to 70,000 euros of PNRR funding and approximately 140,000 of funds from the ASP of Crotone. The provincial health authority also provided, with its own resources, the maintenance of the air conditioning system, the supply of work stations, telephone equipment, peripherals and software, the general commissioning of the activities, the network connections and the supply of an uninterruptible power supply for the emergency line, in support of the generator set
