THE USSI AWARDS OF THE YEAR WILL BE PRESENTED ON MAY 14TH IN ACIREALE

THE PROGRAM OF THE TWO DAYS OF SPORTS JOURNALISM

The award ceremony of the 64th edition of the Ussi Sicilia Year Awards will be held in Acireale on May 14th at 10am in the “Pinella Musmeci” room at Villa Belvedere in Piazza Indirizzo. The event will be presented by journalists Nino Randazzo and Lucio Di Mauro with Sabina Rossi and the participation of the actor Gino Astorina. The artistic direction and organization is entrusted to Francesco Panasci with the patronage of the Sicilian Regional Assembly and the Municipality of Acireale led by the mayor Roberto Barbagallo.

The Ussi Sicilia Year Awards represent the celebration of Sicilian sport and are assigned through the reports of journalists registered with the regional specialization group of the Sicilian Press Association who have witnessed and reported the exploits of the protagonists of Sicilian clubs, athletes and referees of sporting events not only regional and national, but also international. The list of athletes who will receive the awards in the various categories is being defined: from the most coveted one, linked and entitled to the memory of Candido Cannavò, to the awards for the “career”, for the “best technician”, for the “best young”, the “best manager”, the “pioneer”, the referee, the “emerging company” and the photographer.

The USSI Awards of the Year ceremony is part of the two-day program dedicated to sports journalism which will be held in Acireale on 13 and 14 May and which, in addition to the awards ceremony, will be completed by a conference and a refresher course professional.

It will begin on Monday 13 May, at 10am, in the main hall of the “Archimede” scientific high school (via Ludovico Ariosto n. 37) with the “Sport & youth” conference. Speakers will include journalists Marco Civoli, former RAI commentator, Maurizio Nicita, former report chief of “La Gazzetta dello Sport”, and Sergio Magazzù, deputy vice-president of Ussi Sicilia, as well as Marco Fichera, president of the organizing committee of the 2023 absolute world fencing championships in Milan and silver medalist at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, and Paralympic athletes Martino Florio and Raimondo Alecci; Gaetano Rizzo, president of Ussi Sicilia, will moderate.

In the afternoon, starting at 3.30 pm, in the press room of the Palazzo di Città (via Lancaster n. 13), the professional training course will be held on the topic “Sport and those who report on it in compliance with the consolidated text of the journalist’s duties ”, which will award 6 ethical credits. The event, organized by European Culture University (Ecu), aims to delve into the themes of sports narration, through the reports of journalists who over the years have edited services, commentary and reports on the major national and international competitive events with particular attention to what established by the consolidated text of the journalist’s duties. The speakers will be Roberto Gueli, co-director of Tgr Rai, president of the Order of Journalists of Sicily and national councilor of Ussi, Gianfranco Coppola, editor-in-chief of Rai Campania and national president of Ussi, Marco Civoli, Rai commentator of the matches of the Italian national team, world champion in 2006 in Germany, Maurizio Nicita, former editor of “La Gazzetta dello Sport, Marco Fichera, president of the organizing committee of the 2023 absolute world fencing championships in Milan and silver medalist at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, Sergio Magazzù, deputy vice-president of Ussi Sicily, and Gaetano Rizzo, president of Ussi Sicilia; Nino Randazzo, Ussi national councilor, will moderate.
