Serie C, the wait for Olbia could be long: in the silence of the club, the fans await news

Last year, Leandro Greco was made official on July 12th. Before that, Roberto Occhiuzzi was presented on 17 June, Max Canzi’s announcement came in early August (but it was the year of Covid), Michele Filippi’s in mid-June and Bernardo Mereu’s on 5 June.

When it comes to communicating the choice of coach, Olbia always takes its time: unless it involves renewals, as in the case of Filippi in 2019, confirmed on 11 April, and Canzi in 2021, made official on May 26th, the Gallura club normally prefers the month of June to reveal the face of the coach for the new season.

This year, however, things could change, in the sense that the times could be brought forward or postponed by several weeks. Either because the ownership and president have changed, or because there is a championship to be planned in the uncertainty of the category to be faced, since Olbia, directly relegated to Serie D, is aiming for repechage or readmission to Serie C, and the profile of the chosen coach could say a lot about the future of the whites.

The same can be said for the sporting director, a role for which the former Lecco player Francesco Filucchi is popular, more suited to C than to D. For the record, when Olbia was recovered as winners of the Serie D playoffs, in the summer of 2016, except for the immediate confirmation of Michele Mignani as technical guide, the picture remained uncertain throughout July. But it was another Olbia, another situation and, above all, another property.
