This morning, following the outcome of the investigative activity coordinated by Public Prosecutor’s Office at the Court of Benevento, soldiers of the Carabinieri Company of Benevento have executed an order – issued by the Judge for preliminary investigations of Benevento – of precautionary custody in prison and house arrest against a 19 year old, a 45 year old from Casal di Principe (CE) And a 34 year old from Beneventoconsidered seriously suspected, in competition with each other, the first as the material executor, the second and the third as principals, of arson of a commercial establishment.
In particular, the investigation activity originated from the fire of a commercial business, completely destroyed by flames, which occurred in September last year in San Martino Sannita (BN).
The resulting investigations, carried out by the soldiers of the Operational and Radiomobile Unit and by the Carabinieri Station of San Giorgio del Sannio, initially started through a careful inspection and viewing of the surveillance cameras in the area, made it possible to identify a young man, partially misrepresented, who had been enveloped in flames and moved away from the site of the fire on an electric bicycle, abandoning some partially burnt clothing near the business which was subsequently seized together with the premises.
The military, therefore, proceeded to verify whether a young man with burns on his body had been transported or visited in the hospitals of the Campania region, identifying in a hospital in the Neapolitan area a young man who, due to his physical characteristics and the burns reported, could be compatible with the author of the fire. Furthermore, from the inspection of the premises, anomalies emerged with respect to the declarations made by the owners. The subsequent and in-depth investigations through OCP services, searches and seizures, telephone and environmental interceptions, examination of telephone records as well as the examination of witnesses made it possible to acquire evidential elements regarding the episode, and in particular serious indications of guilt as the material perpetrator in the young 19-year-old who had been visited and hospitalized, as well as as principals in the managers of the commercial business who had organized everything to obtain insurance compensation.
On the basis of the elements collected, the Judge for the Preliminary Investigations of the Court of Benevento, sharing the request of the Prosecutor’s Office, issued an application order for a precautionary measure in prison and under house arrest.
The measure implemented today – against which appeals are permitted – was ordered during the preliminary investigation phase, and the recipients of the same are people subjected to investigations and therefore presumed innocent until a final sentence is reached.
