Genoa – Among the financiers of Change, the Foundation headed by the president of the Liguria Region Giovanni Toti, and the Giovanni Toti Committee, in addition to port entrepreneurs there are also those who deal with waste and landfills. As Pietro Colucci, entrepreneur from Campania which in 2021 managed some landfills in the province of Savona intended for the disposal of non-hazardous special waste with recovery of materials and electricity from biogas.
It was in that year that the Genoa prosecutor’s office investigated him for illicit financing of parties (in particular the president’s political formation) and with Toti for corruption. The episode is reported in the order of the judge who placed the Ligurian governor under house arrest. According to investigators between 2016 and 2020 Colucci, through his companies, had financed Toti with 195 thousand euros. In that same period “the companies attributable to the Colucci group – we read in the ordinance – had as their institutional interlocutor the Liguria Region, responsible for issuing authorizations for the management of landfills”.
In that proceeding investigators report a phone call between Matteo Cozzani (head of cabinet also under house arrest) and Toti in which “the latter explicitly referred to the need to speak verbally with (or of) a certain Colucci regarding ‘the stuff in the landfill'”. Toti: “Tell them that if I summon them here on Monday, Tuesday evening also for dinnerRipamonti, Vaccarezza, Olivieri, that we’ll shut it down about everything… about the whole situation, so we’ll line up the water ATO, the thing, also because then stuff from the Colucci landfill will also be slipped in, I want to talk to you about it voice…”. “All the financing coming from the companies of the group attributable to Colucci and directed to the Change Committee and the Giovanni Toti Liguria Committee had not been approved by the respective corporate bodies and, in some cases, had not even been included in the balance sheet “.
The first interrogations begin
President Toti, who has been under house arrest since yesterday on charges of corruption, will be questioned on Friday at the prosecutor’s office in Genoa by judge Paola Faggioni. The first, tomorrow, to be summoned for the guarantee interrogation is instead the former president of the Port Authority and (suspended) CEO of Iren, Paolo Emilio Signorini detained in Marassi prison. Finally, interrogations of President Toti’s chief of staff, Matteo Cozzani, and of the Genoese entrepreneur Aldo Spinelli, both under house arrest, are scheduled for Saturday.
