Defending champs join top 5

Syracuse, NY — For the second straight week, a new team is making an appearance in the top five of the syracuse.com Section III girls lacrosse power rankings.

After taking down Marcellus and Watertown IHC, defending Section III Class C champion Indian River moved up from No. 7 to No. 4 in this week’s rankings.

Cicero-North Syracuse is still No. 1, Skaneateles has moved from No. 4 to No. 2, South Jefferson comes in at No. 3 and Westhill rounds out the top five at No. 5.

The rest of the top 10 is made up of Christian Brothers Academy, Marcellus, Fulton, West Genesee and Watertown.

Jamesville-DeWitt made one of the biggest leaps this week and finds itself just outside of the top 10. After winning three games since the last poll was released, the Red Rams jumped up six spots from No. 17 to No. 11. The biggest jump came from Rome Free Academy who went from No. 29 to No. 22.

Syracuse City/Solvay fell the furthest going from No. 11 to No. 18 this week.

Unlike our weekly poll which includes votes from various reporters, the power ranking ranks all teams regardless of class based solely on a formula that factors in win-loss record, goal differential, opponents’ class and more.

Each week through the end of the season we will release updated rankings on Wednesdays.

Here are the complete rankings:
