Province of Foggia capital of stolen cars throughout Italy.

Lithium batteries. But also lights, doors, video cameras, navigator control units, bumpers. And above all flying, which cost just under 1,4000 euros. They are the valuable pieces rounded up by criminal organizations specializing in car theft in the province of Foggia, one of the areas most affected by the phenomenon in Italy. AND New technologies are increasingly used in thefts, such as special remote controls capable of opening any door in a few moments; the stolen goods then end up on the clandestine market through compliant body shops but also online platforms.

The criminal organizations are based in the Cerignola countryside. But the gangs move across much of Italy to carry out the heists. And recently Abruzzo in particular has come under scrutiny. The stolen vehicles are taken to the many warehouses of the Capitanata where they are dismantled. Lithium batteries for electric cars are in great demandsome of which cost up to ten thousand euros on the legal market. A front bumper for a Mercedes it can also cost 480 euros. Two hundred euros, however, the money needed for a car video camera. In recent months, one of the most requested parts is the steering wheel: just think that, on the market, a sports steering wheel for a BMW can cost up to 1400 euros. Pieces that cost on average half as much on the underground market.

Investigators believe that most of the thefts occur on commission. AND the spare parts of vandalized cars end up not only with compliant body shops but, increasingly often, on the online market. Web platforms are in fact becoming the main means of selling this material also because the checks to verify the origin of the pieces are more difficult.

The Corriere Del Mezzogiorno reports it.
