Playoff semi-finals: Jomi Salerno loses to Brixen in game 1. Repeat at Palumbo on Sunday

It is Brixen who achieves the victory in the first round of the playoff semi-finals. The reigning Italian champions Jomi Salerno lost in game 1 at the Bressanone sports hall despite having the lead at the end of the first half. Now for the people from Salerno there is the opportunity to make up for it in front of their fans in the match scheduled for next Sunday.

Immediately exciting, with a failed attempt by Brixen and the first goal scored by Rocio Squizziato for Jomi Salerno, the match at the Bressanone Palasport did not disappoint the expectations of those present. The two teams show determination, personality and quality with the intention of bringing the match to their side. The match, however, was balanced for large stretches.

Absolute protagonists for Bressanone are Luchin between the posts and Hachana again, the only athlete to finish the match in double figures. For Jomi, however, good performances from Dalla Costa and Petersen. Brixen is ahead in the first quarter, but for the Salerno team Rossomando takes care of equalizing the score in the 17th minute with the goal to make it 8 – 8.

Five minutes from the end of the first half, Noessing’s team is once again ahead by one goal. Jomi Salerno doesn’t fit and hurts again: Squizziato’s goal and Pinto Pereira’s save on Hachana close the first half with the result 14 – 16. The second half also opens along the lines of the first half: the two teams compete they give battle. The match is exciting: the expert Dalla Costa leads her team ahead again, but then Bressanone, pushed by its fans, takes the lead again in the 43rd minute.

The match lights up towards the end: the 23 – 23 goal is scored by Giulia Fabbo. In the 55th minute, however, Brixen takes advantage of a shot from 7 meters and goes back ahead. Giada Babbo misses a lob in front of goal, while Jomi Salerno Petersen makes the most of a precious penalty. Cynical in the final minutes, Brixen takes advantage of an error by Fabbo. Cold on the counterattack Habicher scores the +2 goal, while a ball from Dalla Costa ends up too high on the crossbar. The match ends with a result of 26 – 24.

Jomi Salerno and Brixen will compete again next Sunday 12 May when, at 6.30 pm at Palumbo in Salerno, game 2 of the playoff semi-finals will be played.
