Messina, presentation of the novel “Madre Incompiuta”

Strong participation of the public and students in the presentation of the book “Unfinished Mother” – debut novel by Maria Ausilia Boemi – which took place at the “Lucio Barbera” Modern and Contemporary Art Gallery. The event, included in the XIV edition of “Il Maggio dei libri 2024” of the Metropolitan City of Messina, was sponsored by the Kiwanis Messina club and by the AMMI, Ass. Italian doctors’ wives Women for health. The lawyer coordinated and moderated the meeting. Silvana Paratore, a legal expert in social policies who spoke with the author on the delicate topics covered in the novel: the theme of unwanted motherhood, rape in mid-twentieth century Sicily, adoptions and violence against women.

The presentation

Welcoming those present was the Manager of the Lucio Barbera Modern and Contemporary Art Gallery, Dr. Daniela Cucè Cafeo who expressed her joy in hosting the students at the presentation of the rich program of May of Books events involving associations, schools and citizens. This was followed by the Director of Culture of the metropolitan city of Messina, lawyer. Anna Maria Tripodo who introduced the works by underlining the value of culture and the love of reading which is a bridge that connects worlds and people.

The head of the initiative, organized with meticulous and valuable attention to detail by Dr. Rosaria Landro, spoke about the themes chosen for the how the Giovanni Pascoli Library has become part of the national library system since 2013 which allows online consultation of everything present in it. The President of the Kiwanis Club Messina, Prof. Mariella Di Giorgi, then spoke and reiterated how the role of club services is to support all initiatives to raise awareness of current issues such as violence against women, the condemnation of the phenomena of rape by stating how Boemi’s novel poses important food for thought and arouses emotions and feelings. The national councilor AMMI, lawyer, focused on the protagonist of the novel, a young Sicilian heart surgeon, a woman doctor named Maria. Francesca De Domenico who declared that the Ammi National Presidency enthusiastically welcomed the invitation to participate in the presentation of the novel Madre incompiuta for the important sociological glimpses that the text offers in which the emotional mother/daughter relationships develop after an internal drama which slowly transforms over time, giving life to a filial love that “can never be a reason for anger”.

The author’s dialogue

The dialogue of the author Boemi, specialized in Journalism and mass communications at Luiss in Rome, professional journalist and former provincial secretary of Catania of the Ass, is dynamic. Sicilian press, with Paratore who exalted its long-term narrative abilities. The author was satisfied when she explained the genesis of the novel in which she tells the story of the lives of women of different generations: the noblewoman’s mother and the countess who live through the period of lethal patriarchy for the expression of feelings frowned upon by the precepts of the Church in which pregnancy outside of marriage was considered an indelible stain on the family coat of arms and the protagonist of the story named Maria was a young heart surgeon, an emancipated woman capable of reconciling work and feelings.
