‘Attendance growing by 20% compared to 2023’

Val D’Orcia and Chianti are the most popular areas, but the coastal areas and the Maremma are also increasingly growing

Cycling tourists are increasing in Tuscany, “Approx 20% more cycle tourists than last year reached Tuscany in the first six months of the year, it is confirmation that the bicycle is an excellent tool for enhancing our land and appreciating its landscape while promoting sustainability”. To say it is Fabiola Materozzi, coordinator of Agriturist Toscana, section of Confagricoltura Toscana which deals with the agritourism phenomenon.

An agreement was signed last month agreement called Bike Hospitality between Confagricoltura and the Italian Cycling Federation For push agritourism facilities to equip themselves for this particular type of tourism now growing rapidly.

The areas of greatest interest are Chianti and Val d’Orciabut also the coastal areas and the Maremma are increasingly growing as destinations for cycle tourists – says Materozzi – The agreement with the Italian Cycling Federation is important in trying to offer tailor-made services to tourists who choose the bicycle as a means of travel between the Tuscan towns”

But what do cycle tourists who arrive in Tuscany ask for? The answer is Simona Brandini from the Barone Ricasoli company at Castello di Brolio, an Agriturist affiliate. “The army of two-wheel enthusiasts begins now, with the arrival of the beautiful sunny days and continues throughout the summer until the most famous event in Gaiole in Chianti, L’Eroica, a re-enactment of cycling of the past which it takes place mainly on dirt roads: storage and washing area for bikes, minimal assistance for repairs and charging stations for e-bikes these are the requests of cycle tourists – concludes Brandini – The feeling is that this trend is growing strongly so let’s try to be ready”.
