Traffic in Como for the Ascension, customs closed

Thursday 9 May will be a difficult day for Como’s traffic, but the chaos could begin as early as this evening. In fact, on the A9 motorway the stretch between Como center and Chiasso, towards the Swiss border, will be closed from 10pm to 5am to allow inspection and maintenance of the tunnels, while the Como center junction will be closed in both directions.

The closure, which was already carried out last night, between Tuesday 7 and Wednesday 8 May, however occurs close to another important change in the road system between Como and Chiasso, namely the closure of the commercial customs of Como Brogeda for the full day tomorrow, Thursday 9 May, on the occasion of the Ascension Day.

The night-time closure of the A9 section will in fact force all vehicles in transit this evening to exit at the Como center junction and then travel along the city streets, following the signs for Chiasso until reaching the customs. The combination of the two closures between this evening and tomorrow morning will therefore lead to long queues on the roads of Como in the next 24 hours. The forecast is also confirmed by the Swiss Touring Club, according to which tomorrow morning it will take a few hours to clear the diverted traffic on the main city routes.

Already today, close to the Ascension Day holiday which brings tourists from Switzerland and other European countries where the public holiday is recognized to the Como area, 13 kilometers have been reached and exceeded at the northern portal of the Gotthard motorway tunnel. of queues with 2 hours and 10 minutes of waiting to access the tunnel in the direction of Ticino.
