This is the response to the exorbitant increase in the price of cocoa paste which will affect the city and the price of its “black gold” of Modica

Returning to the past is the key in Modica to face the difficulties triggered by globalization. And this is how cocoa paste will be produced directly in the city, as was done in 1740, in about eight months. Therefore, shortening the production chain is the answer to the speculative phenomenon and climate change which has led to a sharp increase in the price of cocoa paste which has tripled on average. The price increase does not concern cocoa beans. And if we consider that Modica chocolate contains at least 50% of it, we understand how the phenomenon affects the producers of Modica chocolate and ultimately also consumers with increases in the prices of the bars. The creation of a production plant, in addition to wresting power over the price of the product from large multinational companies, responds to the need to trace the product and guarantee sustainable production far from labor exploitation. The checks will thus practically start from the plans up to the tablets. The Director of the Modica Chocolate Protection Consortium explains it.
