He died at 93 years old Mimi Ranieritrade unionist and historic leader of the Bari left, ex PCI and among the founders a Bari of the PDS. The regional secretary of the Apulian Democratic Party reminds us of this, Domenico De Santis: «A long history of militancy, lived with passion and moderation, always at the service of the community of which he was part, which he directed without pride or presumption, to which he gave everything without ever asking for anything other than the pursuit of the ideals of promoting the workers and the advancement of democracy.”

Who was Mimì Ranieri

Ranieri has been involved in political life and in the trade union since the early 1950s: he was secretary of the Chamber of Labor of Bari, member of the regional secretariat, director of Inca Puglia and most recently regional secretary of the SPI. «One of his greatest commitments, constant over the years, was for peace, being among the promoters of the Terra di Bari Peace Committee», recalls De Santis. A farewell ceremony will be held next Monday 13 May at 4pm in the CGIL Puglia headquarters in via Vincenzo Calace 4 in Bari where the funeral home will be open from morning to 9am. «Mimì was a tireless companion in the fight – underlines the CGIL in a note – in CGIL he held the position of general secretary of Bari, secretary of Puglia, manager of Inca Puglia and finally secretary of Spi Cgil Puglia. In his political commitment he was organizational secretary of the Italian Communist Party and among the founders of the PDS, the DS and finally the Democratic Party.” «Mimì – concludes the CGIL note – has also always been a convinced promoter of the Bari Peace Committee».
